I Was Never “Good” at School. Beauty Education Changed Everything.

If you had told me in high school that one day I’d be writing about how much education changed my life, I probably would have laughed.

I never imagined that beauty education would become the experience that completely changed the way I saw myself.

I wasn’t “good” at school.

Actually, I was terrible at it.

I was the student bringing home Cs, Ds and Fs. Traditional education never clicked for me, and over time, I started to believe that maybe I just wasn’t smart enough. I carried that belief into adulthood, assuming school simply wasn’t something I was capable of succeeding in.

For years, that story became part of my identity.

At 26 years old, I was working at a waxing franchise called Depil Brazil. I had started at the front desk and, over several years, worked my way up to Corporate Operations Manager, working directly with the company’s CEO. I loved the beauty industry and everything it represented: helping people feel confident, building relationships, and creating opportunities.

Even though I had built a successful career without a license, something kept pulling me toward esthetics school.

Beauty school could give me the knowledge, skills, and credentials to grow both personally and professionally.

To better understand the industry on a deeper level and learn the science behind skincare.

I wanted to become the best leader I could be for the professionals I worked alongside every day.

But one thing almost stopped me.

School.

I honestly questioned whether I could do it.

What if I failed again?

What if I wasn’t cut out for it?

The Student I Never Thought I’d Become

Eventually, I realized my passion for the industry was stronger than my fear of the classroom.

So, I enrolled in the esthetics program at Ogle School, attending evening classes while continuing to work full time during the day.

That decision changed my life.

Something incredible happened once I started esthetics school.

For the first time, learning didn’t feel like something I had to survive.

It felt exciting because beauty education felt different.

The subjects mattered to me. I could immediately connect what I was learning to my career, my clients, and my future. Instead of forcing myself to memorize information, I actually wanted to understand it.

The student who had struggled through traditional school suddenly became an A/B student.

I graduated with a 90% academic average.

I still remember being surprised by those grades.

Then I realized something important.

Maybe I had never been “bad” at learning.

Maybe I simply hadn’t found the right environment.

When education connects to passion, purpose, and a future you can clearly see, everything changes.

The Curriculum That Helped Me Succeed

Like many esthetics students, I found preparing for state board exams intimidating.

Throughout school, I learned using Pivot Point’s curriculum, and the way the material was presented helped me truly understand the concepts rather than simply memorizing them.

When graduation came, I felt prepared.

I passed both my written and practical state board exams on my first attempt.

That accomplishment meant more to me than earning a license.

It challenged a belief I had carried for most of my life: that I simply wasn’t good at school.

A Career I Never Saw Coming

After graduating and becoming a licensed esthetician, my career continued to evolve in ways I never expected.

I eventually transitioned into technology, becoming a Client Success Manager at Meevo, where I supported salon and spa businesses through software and operational success.

Today, I have the incredible privilege of serving as a Client Success Manager at Pivot Point International.

Every day, I partner with beauty, barber, and wellness schools across the country to help educators, administrators, and students succeed.

And one of those schools is Ogle.

The very school where I sat in evening classes, wondering if I could make it.

Now I get to support the education platform that helped launch my own career.

Every time I work with a school, I remember what it felt like to be sitting in that classroom, wondering if I belonged.

Talk about a full-circle moment.

Beauty Education Opens More Doors Than People Realize

One of the biggest misconceptions about beauty school is that it only prepares you to work behind the chair or in the treatment room.

Those careers are incredible.

But they’re far from the only opportunities this industry offers.

The beauty industry offers career opportunities in education, operations, leadership, technology, software, product development, sales, marketing, consulting, curriculum development, and so much more. A beauty school education can open doors to careers that many prospective students never even realize exist.

My own career has taken me from the front desk of a waxing studio to corporate leadership, to becoming a licensed esthetician, to beauty technology, and now to helping schools shape the next generation of professionals.

None of that was part of my original plan.

And that’s the beauty of this industry.

Why Beauty Schools Matter

Beauty schools, barber schools, and wellness schools do so much more than teach technical skills.

They help students discover confidence.
They create opportunities for people who may have struggled in traditional education.
They show students that intelligence doesn’t always look the same.

Sometimes all someone needs is a classroom where learning finally makes sense.

I know because I was one of those students.

To Anyone Who Thinks They’re “Not Good at School”

We all have moments when self-doubt gets the best of us.

If you’ve ever doubted yourself because of your grades…
If you’ve convinced yourself that education just isn’t for you…
If you’ve wondered whether you’re capable of succeeding…

I hope you’ll reconsider.

Your past does not define your potential.

Sometimes the right subject, the right environment, and the right support can completely change the way you see yourself.

It certainly did for me.

Looking back, earning my esthetics license wasn’t just about becoming an esthetician.

It was about discovering what beauty education made possible for me.

I wish I could tell that younger version of myself—the one bringing home Cs, Ds and Fs and wondering if she just wasn’t smart enough—that she was wrong.

She wasn’t incapable of learning.

She simply hadn’t found where she belonged.

Today, helping beauty schools create that same life-changing experience for thousands of students is one of the greatest privileges of my career.

If my story encourages even one person to believe in themselves enough to take that first step, then every late-night class, every challenge, and every chapter of this journey has been worth it.
